The loud chatters and squeals filled the Red Carpet Entrance of the Base coupled by the soaring sound of the airplane taking off.
The little ones from Children’s Protection Society, Wisma Yatim Laki-Laki Islam and Perempuan Islam have assembled. This activity is in collaboration with Dr. Wong Teik Aun, a senior lecturer from INTI College Penang.
As the seats of the Lower Walhalla Hall are slowly occupied, it began with the self-introduction of the kids. Their shyness was concealed by the wide smile they had when announcing their name, age and school.
Breakfast was served and the bonding moment between the kids ensued. With a filled-tummy, they were divided to groups and the younger kids began with the building of wooden cars / airplanes whilst the older kids have their hands on putting together a Breadboard Internal Connections with the guidance from our engineers.
As they tweak the wooden pieces, the wires here and there – the difficulty they faced dampens their mood but they were not ready to be defeated. The teammates displayed teamwork in assisting and providing their inputs in assembling them.
“Ada batteries tak?” those were the exact words from them when they were done. As they pop it in, the orange-coloured front blades of the airplane rotated swiftly and was advancing forward. The kids had to give it a chase to avoid damaging their “newly-built airplanes”!
To reward them for their efforts, simple games were curated and prizes were gifted to the winning individuals! The science quiz session had seen the kids scrambling to raise their hands and shouting out the answers to the questions – attempting to get their hands on the prizes.
Hugging the various gifts they have won, the satisfied kids were beaming as they munch on their burgers. “I wanna come back here next time.” “Sangat happy.” The little ones expressed their inner thoughts to our helpers who were involved. The day wrapped up beautifully with joyous smiles on their faces as they looked forward to similar activities in the future!
