Greening from Bricks and Mortar 2023

14 December 2023

As part of Aemulus Corporation Sdn. Bhd. and Malaysia Green Building Council (malaysiaGBC) continuous and concerted effort to promote the importance of green building and how the sprouting seed of sustainability efforts should begin somewhere, we intend to reach larger audiences and increase the awareness on how green buildings would be able to contribute to the environment.

As such, Greening from Bricks and Mortar 2023, co-organised with Malaysia Green Building Council (mGBC) – is a spinoff event of Aemulus-hosted Green Architecture Symposium 2022 (GAS). It is a joint-collaboration to not only introduce Aemulus Base to an extended audience but to also position ourselves as a green building standing tall in the free trade zone area in hopes of inspiring like-minded organisations to follow suit. This event is also an opportunity to provide – not just architects but also future architects to be inspired and to promote sustainable building practices for a greener future. In addition, as we gear towards our Aemulus Base Expansion (ABX 2.0), this event serves as a symbolical launching ceremony of our expansion plan as well.

Sounds of the birds chirping could be heard…

The day started with some light showers but the weather took a turn for the good and rapidly welcomed our guests with the morning sunshine. Guests arrived in batches, camera flashes interchangeably and the light jazz music playing at the background was the perfect accompaniment to a hearty breakfast at The Balconie.

And so, the event begins with an opening speech from the Chairman of Aemulus Holdings Berhad, Dato Seri’ Lee Kah Choon. He mentioned that “Due to human activities, our climate has changed tremendously and it is good to note that temperature is not hot at one point. We need to preserve our environment to ensure that the habitat would be able to serve us in years to come.”

Dato Seri’ also emphasizes on how most businesses have adopted the ESG concept and he stresses that “as we move forward to overcome climatic changes. We need to cut down wastes as much as we can.”

To top it off, the City Council of Penang Island’s Mayor, Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Ir. Rajendran P. Anthony mentioned that the City Council of Penang Island is now embarked on the journey to implement green building throughout Penang. Dato Rajendran mentioned “It’s not just the building that we are looking at. It is the air we breathe and the water we drink.”

Dato Rajendran also highlighted that we need to speed up on our ESG initiatives, “many countries have achieved 100% renewable energy and some are using 75% renewable energy and 25% non-renewable energy. But in Malaysia, we are using 75% non-renewable energy and 25% renewable energy.

In addition, the Chairman of Malaysia Green Building Council Northern, Ooi Zi Xun also shared on the initiatives they have been taking towards Carbon Net Zero by 2050.

The architect of Aemulus Base – John Bulcock, the Director of Design Unit Architects (DUA) also gave a detailed explanation on the green features and how the passive designs are able to be energy-efficient. On how he is continuously inspired to design green-focused building, John mentioned that “touching people’s live is what inspires me. People like to work in the building they like. It is interesting to read the results of people saying they like coming to work in this building.

He added “it is about people. Stimulating people. Architecture must be meaningful, the space must be meaningful. It architects souls and that’s fundamental.”

The great sharing session ended and it was followed by the penning of signatures on the painting of Aemulus Base Expansion (ABX 2.0) painted by the teacher from Archway of Dream Drawing. After a laidback lunch, a thorough plant tour around our Base ensued with the guidance from our well-trained staff before the closure of the event.

In other words, it was a fruitful one and we hoped that everyone would embrace sustainability and recognise that immediate actions are necessary – and anyone can start from somewhere, anywhere as long as you acknowledge the importance of it.

As quoted by the Sales and Planning Director of Aemulus, Cheenie, “𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘺𝘦 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 – 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘶𝘵𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵.”

Indeed. Sustainable architectures do wonders to our mother nature. “𝘈𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘺, 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯,” said the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Aemulus, Chin Wah.

Heaps of thank you to all of our honourable guests and participants for being a part of it – till then!
